stakewithspike i wish that what he said you said is true
Congrats! Well done;)
How I did it: I say it took 14 days and by that i mean that's how long it took to get the cravings under control .. to a manageable level. It actually took years.
I made up my mind that since I had just watched dad die of end-stage emphysema after his successful heart surgery back in March 2010, I would quit wasting my money on them and refused to buy them anymore. Instead of health and pretty teeth as motivators I used the "$6.00 pack x 365 days x 1 yr = $2190.00 year FACT" as my motivation to quit. Yes, that's right, only greenbacks seem to motivate me. SO! I will be taking sailing lessons at the end of the year (1500 for the 1st 3 courses and about 700 for the 2 advanced courses). I might go pick up my books before the month ends and have already begun getting back in shape via a walking program.
Lessons & tips: The best advice is to find something that motivates YOU PERSONALLY to help you quit. For me .. the money alone was the deciding motivator.
Also, don't kick yourself in the ass when you fall off the wagon. I tried and tried for years and I swear it was finding this motivator and setting a goal on what I wanted to do with the money that did it for me. I'm stubborn when it comes to who I give my money to .. and I refuse to give it to the government and tobacco companies any longer.
Use the count backwards OUT LOUD from 100 method ALOT when you have a craving. If I could make it to 100 counting backwards and still want a smoke instead of a drink .. then I would have one. I counted really really fast in the beginning .. LOL
Also you have to just quit buying them. If you want a smoke get one off the ground before you'll go and buy any. LOL (I know .. eewwwww)
