How to learn Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C-Sharp Minor
How I did it: I am proud to say that this is my favourite piece I have ever learnt to play, let alone of my current repertoire.
Of course, I am constantly amending things in this piece, but I am at the standard with it where I would feel comfortable performing it. My first public performance of this piece is in a Performance Challenge in about a months time, and I’m actually really excited about finally being able to share a piece of this calibre with an audience. It feels like my entire playing career has led up to this piece; everytime I play it all the way through I am physically and mentally exhausted by the time I finish, and it’s this feeling which for me confirms that playing piano is truly how I wish to spend the rest of my life.
Lessons & tips: Don't be tempted to rush into this piece, learn the notes, and take your time learning them, before attempting to stumble your way through at full speed... (guilty!)
