How to learn to pick locks
"Learning this has gotten me out of several binds - it's very useful to know (bonus points because I really impressed the people I helped)!"
How I did it: You don't need fancy tools - only a good pick (diamond pick works well for most situations) and a good torque wrench. Good doesn't mean expensive.
Get a couple of old locks (these are hard to find, I know - I usually practiced on my apartment door, and my friends' places with their permission). You just need to practice. You can try to read the MIT lockpicking guide, or someone can try to explain it to you, but the light won't come until you're actually there, squatting with an ear to the door. Once you get one, practice doing it again until you can do it in 10-20 seconds. I felt like once I got one lock, I could get them all.
Binds I've gotten out of (and you can too!)
- Locking myself out (this used to happen often)
-Opening a storage closet when the grounds were closed to put back equipment that I couldn't take home
- Opening a friends house to feed their pets when we'd forgotten their keys at home half an hour away
