How I did it: It took me a while to start working on this goal because I was getting confused over the conflicting information online, most of which seemed unhealthy and not for me. I didn’t want to detox and put myself at risk. I wanted a detox that was really going to cleans my system and not kill me with hunger or deprive me of too many nutrients, so master cleans was out of the question! I have experienced hunger when I suffered from hyperemessis and I don’t know why a sane person voluntarily do anything that would starve the body of essentials.
Anyway, a few days ago, I recieved a message about the ‘7 day fruit fast detox’ which I suppose was the only plan which appealed to me the most but again 7 whole days without food from other groups doesn’t sound too healthy to me.
So... I turned to a book that was sitting on my shelf for years, Gillian McKeith’s, “You are what you eat” which I think is perfect as she lays things down concisely. I've followed her 'One Day Detox' (I did two day in fact!) which involves drinking fruit / vegi juice and herbal teas for the whole day. It was so easy, well except for the moment when I was faced with smell of fresh samosas and walking through the food court with my little ones last night.
The plan was as follows, mind you I did tweak it slightly so you're best adviced to have a look at the book..
1. Lemon tea- first thing (or linseed but I couldn't find this)
2. A juicy for breakfast - my favourit was watermelon, blueberries and strawberries.. Yum!
3. Camomile tea
4. Juice for breakfast, carrot, celery, cucumber - was actually nice.
5. Tea again..
6. Dinner - green juice.
You can eat a celery stick if hungry.
In the book there was something about pottasium soup, I've ignored this as it was an extra, so can't help ya.
Also do a dry body scrub and massage your liver as you lay in bed and that's it.
Once you're done, ease yourself bak into eating proper meals. Avoid oils...
I actually think the juice shakes are supper yummy, except this green juice which has leeks in it, gave me onion breath, eek. I might incorprote them into my daily diet, juice one of my meals, sure way of getting my 5-a-day in!
Lessons & tips: Take information on the internet with a pich of salt, there's a lot of misinformation out there and do a thorough research before doing the detox. Be sure about what you want to get out of a detox and if a diet doesn't sound like it's going to do that - leave it alone.
