How to get rid of this MESS in my room
"One day of dedicated work"
How I did it: This may sound ridiculous or pathetic, put in the beginning of the day my goal was not to have a clean room, but to check something, anything off my Life List, and this seemed like the most doable thing. So 43T was the motivating factor.
I took my only free day of the week, and didn't plan anything else than cleaning.
- The first thing I did, and I don't remember why, was to clean my windows and mirrors.
- And then... I collected some trash, I made piles... I collected usable stuff in a box and then put the things where they belong.
- I created new "categories" and respective boxes for my toiletries
- I vacuumed the floor
- mopped the bathroom
- cleaned sinks, toilet, and tiles
- removed big items from my room which I presently don't use, and put it on the attic
- did the dishes
- put away my clothes
- cleaned surfaces
It's still not completely done, but the MESS is definately gone.
Lessons & tips:
- start with something you are in the mood for (this was cleaning windows and mirrors for me)
- take "before" and "after" pictures to make your progress visible
- if your motivation decreases, choose a small task and set the timer for just a couple of minutes. It will probably secure you a small success.
- Don't be perfectionist.
Resources:
- a timer
- a big box to collect everything that is out of place
- trash bins
- cleaning supplies
