"Shit government hoops to jump through!!"
How I did it: - Downloaded the change of name forms from the QLD and the NT Births, Deaths and Marriages websites.
- Filled in the forms
- Got an ad printed in the Alice Springs Newspaper for me because I had to notify the community that I was changing my name (lol)
- Got all our documentation certified by a JP
- Sent off applications with our fees
- Waited a hundred years for our certificates to arrive in the mail!
(all those steps sound easy enough by OMG it was a huge effort, forms confusing, could never get the QLD office on the phone, the NT office people lovely but sometimes a little uninformed)
Lessons & tips: As stupid as it sounds if you're going to combine your names when you get married get the guy to do his BEFORE the wedding because then the girl just automatically takes his name and you don't have to worry about extra forms and pay more stupid fees.
It would still have been a problem with the principle of "taking his name" but it still would have saved a heck of a lot of time, money and effort!
