How I did it: I just went along to an open mic poetry slam and did it. The first time was with Farrago poetry, but since then I have also performed for apples and snakes, the Poetry Cafe in London, the Catweazle Club and the Nuyorican poetry cafe . I once even performed for the drummers from Snow Patrol and Belle and Sebastien round a camp fire.

Lessons & tips: Keep repeating your poetry to yourself aloud while on your own and then when you're ready just go for it.

Resources: There are lots of collectives in the london area for poets but lamong the most supportive would be Farrago and Apples and Snakes. The Poetry Cafe in Covent Garden is also a good resource
