How to run a 5k
How I did it: i've been running regularly for a few months now, steadily improving my time with each session. i was working out in the gym on campus and saw an advertisement about a free 5k that was being offered there. so i decided to register.
Lessons & tips: -don't worry about winning or beating other people. you are going to pass people and people are going to pass you. don't concentrate on them, only concentrate on yourself and on doing your personal best.
-it's ok if you have to stop and rest/walk for a bit.
-be sure to eat an adequate meal beforehand and stay hydrated.
-wear proper running shoes. don't buy new shoes right before the race.
-practice on your own for a few weeks beforehand.
-listen to music while you run if that helps motivate you
-wear appropriate clothing for the weather but keep in mind that you will get hot as you continue to run.
