How to lose 20 pounds
"finding the right balance so I didn't loose ground when I wasn't killing it. "
How I did it: Yesterday I weighed in at 159.4 lbs. meaning I've finally defeated this goal, and weigh less than I have in probably 10 years. Now onto the next baby step: 25lbs. If I can swing that by the start of next year (which means actually losing weight over the holidays!) That would be awesome, and then just another 25lbs to tackle next year.
I did it by exercising very hard from nov - may, as well as tracking what I ate every single day. Since May I've slacked off, even though I had very nearly reached my goal. I found that by continuing to eat a diet that was pretty regular, and watching myself (bring leftovers home from restaurants, choosing meat free options at home, avoid sugar binges) I was able to maintain my weight, and every little bit of exercise I did do knocked off more weight.
Lessons & tips: It's important to build a good base of muscle to help improve metabolism and make up for bad days.
Drinking more water made me feel more energetic and healthy, and kept me motivated to do well.
weighing myself most days helped me recognize when I was slipping, and helped me to be competitive with myself.
Resources: I used calorieking.com a lot to find nutritional info, I used Yourself!Fitness and the Y to exercise, and of course, I tracked my weight here on 43 things.
