How I did it: i decided there's just too much waste out there to keep using plastic grocery bags. so i bought a few cloth bags to take with me when i go shopping. i tried to remember to bring one with me at first on shopping trips, but i kept forgetting. so now i leave one in the car at all times. or in my purse. i find its nice to buy the ones that zip up into a smaller size. 

Lessons & tips: buy several cloth bags and leave them in the vehicles you drive and in your purses (the ones from target zip up to be really small) so that you'll have one with you all the time.

Resources: most large grocery stores will have their own brand of cloth bag you can purchase, and some stores even give you a discount for using it.
