How to improve my biking skills
"It's an extremely satisfying and exhilarating experience!"
How I did it: I started 2 years ago with 0 biking experience, ie. started from scratch.
After I could balance, I took my bike out every day or every other day during the summer holidays to practice. I first biked in a nearby park, where there was less people and the roads were wider, so it was safe and a good place to practice balancing, changing speeds and making turns.
When I felt I had better control of my bike, I went on to the actual streets and rode carefully next to pedestrians and made sure to watch out for cars at street crossings. I also practiced going up and down bridges, turning sharper corners and riding through narrow spaces or between pedestrians.
Lessons & tips: Safety first: don't do anything reckless or difficult until you have assessed the situation and you feel that you're capable of pulling it off. Also, wear knee and elbow pads if you're planning to ride at high speeds.
If you're planning to ride a bike in a country with bad traffic regulations or bad roads, you will need to practice further. It is VERY dangerous even for extremely experienced bikers!
Try to bike every day or every other day in nature when the weather is good. It is a great form of exercise and makes you feel more positive about yourself and your life.
