How I did it: I decided that it would be more meaningful to hike and spend time with someone I admired and would like to be more like.  They say you become 20% of each of the five people you hang out most with. (Whoever "they" are) So I decided to ask one of the busiest, successful businessmen I knew to join me.  I was surprised that he not only accepted, but also is becoming an enthusiast.

Lessons & tips:

1. Don't hesitate to ask.
2. Aim for high targets. 
3. Dont wait too long before taking action. 

Resources: REI was a great source to take my pal to help him get the gear he needed for the hobby.  Also added a "SPOT" safety satellite locator, which can be used on future trips.  It can lend a sense of security to new hikers and their loved ones.
