How to get healthier
How I did it:
1. Committ completely to changing the way you eat (forever) -- eat a balanced diet consisting of whole grain carbohydrates, vegetables, fruit, nuts, beans, lean protein (even vegan protein, at times), etc
- find healthier alternatives for sweet foods if you have a sweet tooth i.e. sweets without refined sugar, tofu cheesecake instead of the standard cheesecake
- learn how to eat proper portions, and use the "serving size" portion of the nutritional info on food you buy
* check out the food you're eating, brush up on the ingredients and calories -- I've met people who had wild misconceptions about the nutritional values of the food they eat (or don't eat)
- eat at least 4 times a day, preferably 5-6 times a day
- drink water and tea, and as little soda and other sugary liquids as possible
- never, ever starve yourself -- learn how many calories you need to sustain, then to lose weight and stick to your calorie goal without dipping below (as eating less calories will only cause weight gain, and missing calories your body needs feels awful to most)
2. Exercise at least 3 times a week, 30 mins each time -- the other side of this is to try new things and more intense workouts when your body begins to adapt
3. Take a multi-vitamin, and consider taking Calcium if you're a woman
4. Commit to sleeping regularly - 7-9 hours a night, every night, no excuses
5. try taking up a physical hobby, a recreational sport, or even just try taking 30 min walks regularly
6. understand that a breakdown in just one of the above areas could mean that you're wasting your time with the rest
