How to keep a journal
"Very rewarding. Helps the memory."
How I did it:
- Buy a waterproof pen and blank (no lines) journal.
- Pick a time and place when you have 10-15 minutes (lunch? dinner?)
- Draw whatever you see out the window, on the table in front of you, or a picture on the internet.
- Add color with watercolor wash or colored pencils
Lessons & tips: At lunch I'll take a few minutes to sketch something. I don't watercolor it or add words then.
Later in the evening I add my gratitude words, usually around the sketch or sometimes on the facing page.
Sometime that evening or even at the end of the week I'll go back and add the color washes to the sketches for that week.
Resources:
You just need three things for this approach:
I use uni-ball vision micro pens. Easy to find at any office supply or even Walmart. Other waterproof pens can be found at art or craft supply stores.
I use a waterbrush but you can use a regular artist's brush or even color pencils.
Buy a journal that is blank. When you add words use a pencil guide or place a piece of lined paper under the blank paper to supply guidelines for your writing.
Enjoy. Great fun.
