How to expand my vocabulary
How I did it: I needed to feed my inner geek, so I made an attempt at grad school! Not only did I meet other people like me, I also learned to speak in the academic language I was so afraid to use before. This also helped me understand a lot of pop culture references that sometimes went over my head. I enjoy people watching and using fancy words now, mostly in good humor, but also to share my blossoming vocab with other like-minded individuals.
Lessons & tips: READ! All the time! I used to read the New York Times and local papers for my boss each day to pick out the headlines relating to his profession. I learned so much about the outside world that I had been sheltered from for a loooonnnngggg time! Hearing about other people's struggles gives you hope and an urgency to help those in need!
