How to pick a book in the Bible and study it closely.
How I did it: I actually wrote an entry about this goal at: http://www.43things.com/entries/view/4930525 When I was writing that entry, I thought it was the "I've done this" entry.
Excuse me while I copy and paste some of it into these fields.
For the "It took me ___ days" I put down 8 weeks, because the books I studied were from between like, 4 to 15 chapters. So on average a book would be about 8 chapters. My small group would do one chapter a week.
church and this has helped immensely with this goal. Not only have I
studied one book of the Bible closely, I’ve done several.Daniel, 1
Corinthians, Ruth, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus. I really liked how Daniel
has made me realize the reality of end times much more. And I LOVE LOVE the story in Ruth. I especially liked the metaphor of being covered in God’s wings that was used twice in Ruth.
Lessons & tips: Lots of lessons from the books themselves. But as far as lessons on getting this done. It really helps to do this with other people.
Resources: I
can’t recommend Concordia’s commentaries enough. I used it for Ruth and
the commentaries explained so much in such detail. It was immensely
fantastic.

Serioulsy. Often they will have 25 pages of commentary for one or two verses. It's incredible.
