How to learn a new programming language

How I did it: I would say that I dived into two languages this year, both very simple: (modern) JavaScript and Lua. With JavaScript being the hot new thing nowadays, choosing it was a no-brainer. For Lua I still have to finish a project to communicate with an Arduino microprocessor...
