How to teach abroad
How I did it: Teaching abroad was such a good experience! I'm not trained whatsoever, and I was very nervous going into it but I came out so fulfilled. I LOVED my students and I miss them so much. I volunteered in Accra, Ghana for three months through an expensive program (Projects Abroad), but if anyone is interested in teaching in Ghana, don't hesitate to ask me anything! I could help you find a school without all of the super expensive organization costs.
Lessons & tips: Keep an open mind, bring supplies- whatever you can.. worksheets, pens, stickers etc. Teaching was very frustrating sometimes.. between enforcing discipline and just feeling like you aren't getting through to your students but it is SO worth it. If you have interest in this goal in the first place, I'm sure you will love completing this goal. DO IT!
Resources: I bought a lot of phonics books at church booksales, school supplies in september during sales, and tried to look around for a reliable-inexpensive organization.. hard to come by. I suggest looking for local organizations, rather than ones that offer placements in many countries because those ones tend to have the most administrative costs.
