How to be a vegan for a week
How I did it: I've been into vegetarianism for about 5 years now, so going vegan wasn't that big a deal. It definitely took some research and prep; Research to make sure I was getting the correct nutrients, and prep so I had all my ingredients on had.
I set up a meal plan with dinners and lunches for 6 days (I always eat the same vegan breakfast), and made sure they were not too crazy and all sounded scrumptious. I wasn't too strict on assigning a day to a particular dish, when I got home I'd choose the one that sounded good to me at the moment. The last day was a free day (weekend day), when I could choose to go out to a vegan restaurant, make something new, or just raid the farmer's market for whatever. The week flew by!
Lessons & tips: A lot of people fail in this goal because they don't eat the proper balance of nutrition. Bisquick mix may be vegan, but that doesn't mean you should eat pancakes for a week straight. I also took my supplements as normal (daily multi, iron, B vitamins, and calcium), exercised and slept regularly.
Remember, being vegan goes beyond just your food: no leather or fur fashions, only cruelty-free makeup, skincare, cleansers, and NO down pillows/throws. But, if you're not ready for all that, just start with the food for now! :P
Resources: Do a googe search for vegan food blogs. Most have quick and yummy recipes from everyday vegans who aren't pro chefs. Vegweb.com has a huge database of recipes as well.
You can even search for some vegan meetups in your area, visit an animal sanctuary, or talk with any veggies/vegans you know.
Try and get your friends on board with the goal. Doing things as partners or a group makes it easier and more fun. Surround yourself if you can with loving and supportive people and it'll be a breeze.
