How to help Little Girl make the transition to Big Sister
"Clapping with one hand."
How I did it: My wife and I discussed the baby's impending arrival quite far in advance. We talked up fun stuff about the baby. We talked up how Little Girl will be able to be a Big Helper.
Other than that, it is probably difficult to help a small child adjust to the reality of a new sibling.
Lessons & tips: There's probably not any good way to do this. As my wife reports what she once read: "Bringing a sibling home to a child is about the same as asking your spouse, 'I'm bringing home another husband/wife next week. How do you feel about that?'"
Resources: Gasoline and Detroit steel. My final "help" on the transition was to bring Little Girl to her Aunt's house during the birth.
