How to hike Machu Picchu
"Wet and sludgy - but absolutely worth the effort!"
How I did it: While physically demanding, anyone who is reasonably fit will get through just fine. The hype about a four day trek got the better of me around half way through the second day (which is the toughest day) and I doubted whether I should have even tried.
A cup of coca tea however, and I was back up and running again -- it's definately all psychological.
Lessons & tips: Stay hydrated, bring warm clothes (particularly if travelling in the wet season) and plenty of small change.
Resources: In my experience, they are a professional tour comapny with knowlegable guides and well-treated porters.
