How to see the aurora borealis
"cold, dark and subtle"
How I did it: We booked a holiday in november for 2 weeks to iceland, the holiday was AMAZING and I totally recomend it. We did not end up seeing the northern lights on our first trip out but on the second tour we saw them, they were very subtle but it was amazing to know we were witnessing something so specific in nature and rare in experience it was still worth it.
Lessons & tips:
- Just make sure that you don't go in the full moon like we did as it makes the lights dimmer.
- the websites say book 10 days in a aurora seeing area to give yourself the best chance of seeing them
- go to an area outside the city lights, in iceland there are tours which can take you out there.
Resources:
- websites about aurora..... google it, there are plenty
- we reccomend this company completely http://www.adventures.is/ they are young and keen and enthusiastic... we really enjoyed their other tours but unfortunately we booked the aurora with another provider who seemed to resent the tour... fun....
