How I did it: I have been an exchange student in Korea for one semester. At the end of the semester, I went in Japan ! I booked all my hostels in advance in order to be able to stay in cheap places (Because hotels are really expensive).
Since I had few money, I never ate in restaurants, I just bought local food (rice !) in small shops.
Lessons & tips: Book your hostels in advance !
Resources: My parents gave me 500 euros to do that. And some of my friends in Korea gave me tips about cheap hostels.
