How I did it: My cousin, who is a correction's officer, came for a visit and she showed me how to handle a gun (hold, load and shoot).  She owns a Glock 40 cal which was not too difficult to hold since it isn't a really heavy gun.  We went to a shooting range, my first time, and I was able to do everything she taught me to do, all on my own.  Shooting the gun for the first time was a little intimidating but once I took the first shot, it was easier and I did pretty well with the target.

It took a lot of concentration because I was focused on holding the gun correctly, standing correctly and to make sure I was breathing and exhaling.  All in all, it was a great learning experience and I am not afraid to be around guns anymore.
