"This requires dedication primarily; hard work is secondary."
How I did it: My all-time high weight was 150 (around 2.5 years ago) and now I hover between 125 and 130. I'm still looking to lose a few pounds, but I am psyched to be able to say that I've lost over 20 lbs and have kept it off for 6 months to 1 year.
Working out daily at the gym helped me gain strength and muscle, but it did not help me lose weight. I didn't start losing the pounds until I started watching what I ate. I was already vegan, so I wasn't taking in a lot of empty calories or high fat foods, so that helped. What helped most though was starting the No-S Diet - no snacks, sweets, or seconds except on weekends and special days. The pounds started dropping, and good habits were formed. I still eat this way today and it keeps everything stable so that I don't gain back.
I started working out at home instead of at the gym. Once a week I run between 2 and 3 miles. 5 days a week (every weekday) I do a home workout from Bodyrock.tv. These workouts are straightforward and timesaving, but I have seen better results doing these workouts than I did from going to the gym on a daily basis. These workouts have helped tone my body so that I've not only lost weight, but I look stronger.
Lessons & tips: Eat in moderation. Cut out empty calories. Exercise regularly - even just walking helps.
