"The worse thing ever."
How I did it: You really live for one day at a time. I was so wrapped up in keeping myself fed, clean, and having gas in my car, you can only dream of having a life outside of that. All the people you end up knowing are also homeless. At least there are other people to pass the time with.
I think the lack of sleep and worrying about the cops were the worst things. I can't tell you how many times I've been awoke by the wonderful SDPD banging on my window, apparently attempting to give me a heart attack. They love to give tickets and search the car. Would arrest you in a heartbeat if you give them a reason. They apparently have nothing better to do than look for ppl living (usually not by choice) in their vehicles.
There are public showers at the beach/bay areas if you are in CA. Use them! You might be lucky and find a shower with a locking door! I found one...but just one. It eventually was closed by the city. :(
There are "feeds" you can go to. Talk to other homeless to find out where and when they are. It might be hard to get this info, some ppl don't want to give up what they know. They don't want too many ppl going to the feeds they go to, makes the lines longer and there is less food for everyone. Hopefully you can find some kind soul/s to give you REAL places/days/times.
Every kind of homeless go to them, so be prepared to see some stuff. Also be prepared to eat rotten food they feed you at the "feeds". Some are better than others, but when you're desperate you'll eat almost anything. It's really sick. I never want to be homeless again...never never never. Did I say never?
