How to see a doctor, dentist, and optician over christmas
"NHS appreciation!"
How I did it:
Over the Chritsmas period I did infact see a dentist and an optician, but never made it to the doctors for various factors (mostly being time constraints, and that my registered practice isn't in my home town meaning I'd have to fill out temporary residence forms etc etc). The main reason I wanted to go was a certainty that my hair was falling out... a fear that both my best friend and boyfriend dismissed and put down to the fact I don't use a hairbrush. Paranoia much?
I had also convinced myself I needed at least 2 fillings, but the dentist gave me the A-Okay and let me leave the chair in under 5 minutes! Amazing for the amount of sugar I eat.
However, I definitely knew my glasses weren't working as well as they could be, and a trip to the opticians proved that my eyesight had decreased 0.25 in each eye.. although I never got round to getting new glasses before heading back to Finland. I'll be waiting til I'm home to get some as I can redeem free lenses with my NHS voucher!
The NHS is a great thing. I can't stand British people who openly complain about it, yet would have no intentions to pay for private health care. We're in a very lucky position in the UK not to pay health insurance and medical bills and I appreciate it greatly!
Lessons & tips: Don't fear the doctor or the dentist, they're only there to do you good! And the longer you leave a problem undiagnosed the worse the outcome may become!
