"I opted for the quick route"
How I did it: I cheated. I chopped it all off. BUT to keep it healthy after all the choppage, I tried using a variety of different shampoos and conditioners. I find that natural products worked the best for me, like Burt's Bees, Avalon Organics, or just plain baking soda and vinegar. I make my own leave in conditioner with a mix of coconut oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil. Buying everything separately was a little expensive (about $10 a bottle, so $30 all together) but it lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts. There's no build up, the shine is incredible, and it gives it just enough texture to look good. I'll never use anything else. And since it's organic and chemical free, I use it for everything. It's great as lip balm, on dry patches of skin and callouses, as a foot rub, and even as a moisturizer for my gauged ear lobes. It's some great stuff.
Ok this step isn't for everyone, but it certainly helps. I stopped dying all of my hair. Instead of touching up all of my roots, I only touched up the visible roots and let the rest grow. When the roots were long enough, I flipped my part. I let my natural color grow out, and no one even noticed. Dyed hair is never as healthy as natural hair can be! I miss my blue hair so much, but my hair is so much more lustrous now.

- Get a trim
- Try new shampoo
- Get a leave-in conditioner that doesn't build up
- Dye a little less
