How to join the Bishop Hill Fiber Guild
How I did it: The Guild meets once a month. I planned to join back in January, but discovered that I'd missed the meeting, having thought they met on the 3rd Saturday. Instead, they meet the 2nd Saturday. Earlier this week, I contacted the vice-president for more information. She was quick to respond and this morning, I gathered my stuff, hopped in the car, and headed to West Jersey. The Guild meets in a church there. It was easy to find since the town only has one church and about as many streets. I've already volunteered to be one of the hostesses for May. All that means is I'll be bringing some snacks to share with the group. I was also glad to be able to provide some information about the college when the discussion turned to the annual Spin-In that is held on our campus.
Lessons & tips: Talk to area knitters, crocheters, and other fiber enthusiasts if you are looking for a guild. However, guilds aren't for everyone since there are usually dues and things are more formal. This group seems to be laid-back, but they also do have at least one big event that they host each year. A more informal group, like the Stitch 'n' Bitch that I go to on Wednesday evenings may be more comfortable for some people.
