How to spend an entire day watching the extended version of all three Lord of the Rings movies back-to-back-to-back by Ishmael2005

How I did it: I gathered with three friends in our home cinema with lots of comfy blankets and pillows. We (of course!) watched the Extended Versions. Began “Fellowship Of The Ring” at 9:20 a.m., finished “Return Of The King” at 9:00 p.m.  Brief breaks when we changed discs, lots of munchies (pita & hummus, pretzels, fruit, muffins, chilli, veggie tray, liquorice all-sorts, etc. etc.) Wrote down quotes that caught my attention along the way. My wife kindly shuttled our sons to their events and visited friends, leaving us to our devices for the entire day. Great bonding experience: “Let this be the hour when we draw swords together”. ~ King Theoden.

Lessons & tips: * Invite many, expect few! (Only true fans will take out a whole day for this, and most family men—I’m 50!---have responsibilities)

* It helps to have a big TV screen and surround-sound
* A map of Middle Earth was helpful to keep track of where our voyagers were at
* Lots of finger food is a must!

I usually end up doing this about once a year. I’ve heard good things about the cast commentary on the extended editions, so I think next time I’ll watch that ;)
