How to donate my hair

Oh my goodness!

I’m currently growing mine out now to donate to Locks of Love and it’s superrrr long. I’m very good to my hair as I don’t over wash/condition it and I do not even own a blowdryer!

I was going to wait until July-ish to cut it, but judging off of your length, I’d say I could do it now! I’ve been wanting to do this for years and just never have, but I’m extremely excited to take advantage of it now. :)

That's great!

It is such a great cause. I’m glad I did this :D

5% gray?

I was looking at the Pantene site to see if I would qualify to donate my hair… um… how does one know if the amount of gray they have is more or less than 5%?

Did you cut your own hair?

Yeah, the whole gray issue surprised me.

My neighbor did this original chop. I then went to my salon and had it styled. It is already way passed my shoulders now and needs to be cut again.

I wont do it again though. That was my last donation.

Maybe

I’ll just donate anyway and hope that when they do whatever they do to determine if my hair is or isn’t 5% or more gray, it will pass the test. I hope it’s not more than 5%... :-/

But isn’t it sad to think that it wont be used :(

I just can’t get passed that. There are women who are totally fine w/ gray hair so why not a wig?

You're right...

I do want it to be used. Hmm… I’ll have to figure out a way to find out how gray my hair is. Or donate to another organization.

States: Gray hair will be accepted and sold to offset the manufacturing costs.

So basically, hair that does not meet standard requirements (such as colored, grey, permed or under 10 inches) is sold to wig manufacturers who CAN use the hair. That money goes to cover the cost of the $1,000 needed to make a child’s hair piece. Essentially, you would be helping the organization financially… just a thought :)

Good idea!!!

hat_feathers up to no good!

your hair is so luxurious

and such a pretty color. It’s a perfect caramel.

Are you going to keep it short and styled or let it grow long and keep it that way?

This thread is very interesting. I had no idea it was so expensive to make a head covering with hair.

One of my daughter’s friends lost all her hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes, quite suddenly at about age 12. She did not seem to have any other condition at all. It was startling. She was quite stoic about it. Her parents allowed her to have wigs in colors.

Kudos to you for donating your beautiful hair.

Why, thanks! :)
I had no idea the wigs cost so much to make until I did some research.
I am growing it out but i won’t let it get that long again.

bp has gotten 39 cheers on this entry.
