"It changed me."
How I did it: I had a dance background. i started off joining competitive cheer during my 8th grade year. During that year i learned the trade of Real cheerleading. i got tumbling skills and stunting skills. As well as the feel for the sport. When 8th grade ended i tried out for the highschool team. i got on and from there i cheerleaded in highschool.
Lessons & tips: You dont have to have extensive dance or cheer background (Though the dancers and pre cheerers got almost guaranteed spots on the team..) You have to work hard, have a good attitude and be willing to try whatever things/ new things the coach tells you.
pratice makes perfect. Believe in yourself.
Always push yourself harder [dont be stupid though].
get into dance, especially jazz and ballet (ballet is the base of all kinetic sports). Support your teammates.
prepare. Be reliable. cheer is about hard work.
Never give up. cheerleading is such a reachable goal, for anyone. right coaches, HARD WORK, perserverence, determination and good spirits will get you anywhere.
You just have to never give up!
Resources: -Join Dance: ballet, jazz, hiphop
-Join an all star cheerteam (If its an allstar like i was on it will REALLY get you ready.)
-Take extra tumbling classes! (use tiger paws if your wrists are bad. but they inhibit some dance/ stunting)
-Read up on cheer!!
- PRATICE.
