How to send 200 postcards through Postcrossing by S.E.

How I did it: I just kept sending. When a postcard was registered I sent another one. There was a point when I was too busy to participate, and I didn't send much, but I picked it back up when I had more free time.

As I mentioned in the summary... there is a little bit of challenge and luck in the mix. Sometimes your recipient doesn't register right away, or the card doesn't make it and gets lost along the way. You can't really control that.

But it's not hard! Just send when you can and you'll get there. : )

Lessons & tips: - Be patient. It takes time for mail to arrive, and for some countries like China and Russia it can take a little longer

- Mail out your postcards as soon as possible after receiving the address

- Don't expect everyone to register their card right away. People have lives, and sometimes they can't make registering your card as soon as they get it a priority.

- Don't expect every card to make it! Sometimes they do get lost along the way, or sometimes the user you are sending to decides to no longer participate while your card is in transit (this is especially frustrating).

- Be considerate of what cards the person likes or doesn't like. I don't think this influences the rate at which people register, but it's just courteous common sense.

So far, I’ve done 16, and it seemed like a major effort :-) So, your 200 is an outstanding effort…

I have to say that unfortunately I have yet to receive a pretty card. That’s what kills me. I go out of my way to find a great card, and in response I keep receiving very generic cards…This does not help.

Hmm...

I know what you mean. A lot of people on there are more interested in generic touristy cards than anything else, so they buy them and send them, too. It’s kind of a safe bet… but can get boring!

I think it helps to have a descriptive list on your profile of postcards you like…. you could also go around the site and favorite the postcards you like, and someone who gets your address can look in your favorites to see what kind of a postcard you’d really like (you could hint for them to look in your favorites on your profile).

It does take a little time, too. 16 cards means only 16 people have been able to send you a card, and that’s not many people considering the thousands that use the site. I think if you hang in there you’ll start getting some cards you really like. : )

I do need to tell people that I prefer flowers to boring pictures of tiny towns rather than expecting that someone would guess it!!!
