How I did it: Finding my soul mate is not something I made a goal out of. It's one of those gifts that just arrived on my doorstep after so many years of struggling. I spent a lot of time knowing myself, and I just became true to myself. People who understand who you truly are tend to gravitate towards you in one way or another.

I took steps to get to know people deeply and it is in this constantly probing nature that I found my male version, my soul mate. It has been a very rewarding friendship for both of us because we are like mirrors of each other. :)  

 

Lessons & tips:

I guess it all also came with the premise of not wasting too much time on people who do not share the same wavelength. It's okay to be friendly with everyone, but reserve your best energies to the ones who really connect with you in a deep way. You basically let go of the mediocre relationships in your life to make room for the substantial ones. Life is short, choose wisely. Often you will find that your soulmate is quite worth it. 

Some people ascribe romantic notions to a soulmate. I had that too. I thought of numerous scenarios where I can end up marrying him or something. But he is already in a committed relationship when I met him, and as a person who understands him inside out, all I can do on my end is to support that existing commitment. Soulmates want each other to be happy, if they have a healthy sense of love for themselves.  

Push comes to shove, you can have your soulmate in a non-romantic way. The whole soulmate idea can be so overrated, that some tend to make it an uncompromisable standard before they get married or something. You can marry someone who is not your soulmate but complements you just the same. Because there is also beauty in variety.

And in varying degrees, if you are lucky enough to find them, you can even have more than one soulmate in this lifetime. It's just a matter of being real and being open to the possibilities.
