How to learn to snowboard
"Time to shred!"
How I did it: Why did it take me three years? Because I was only going once or twice a season, which absolutely didn't help. This year, I found a bunch of different deals on various Tahoe-area resorts and made it a point to try and go every two weeks or so. Going regularly and in different powder conditions definitely helped a lot, as did watching a bunch of YouTube videos with tips. Eventually, it just sort of clicked and I was magically carving turns. So excellent.
Lessons & tips:
- Go regularly, and in different weather conditions.
- If you have fresh powder, put up with the crappy weather and driving conditions and go! Falling will hurt a lot less, and you'll be less afraid to try steeper terrain.
- Figure out your stance. This was the absolute most important thing for me. I could *not* turn toeside for the life of me until I turned my back binding to face forward to 6 degrees. If you're having trouble, take the time to try to tweak things.
- If you're feeling stuck and on a beginner board, get something a bit stiffer and/or longer. This helped me a lot as well since it provided some much needed stability when going faster.
