How to get Concealed Weapons Permit for TX
How I did it: They actually had an online deal to purchase the class necessary to complete for your permit. So I purchased that and saved myself a bundle. I filled out the online application on the state's DPS website. The class was 10 hours on a Saturday, and included your picture, finger prints, and shooting range test. The educational portion was filled with a bunch of hokey videos that were sub par. I didn't feel I learned a lot, but evidently enough to prove to the state that I'm responsible. Ended up doing my shooting test at an outdoor range (only practiced at an indoor range) in the RAIN.
Lessons & tips: Educate yourself on your state's laws. Practice, practice, practice with your gun (practice indoors and out.) Be prepared that you pay a state filing fee on top of the cost for the class, all in all be prepared to spend about $300 depending on your state. And test with a semi-automatic not a revolver, that way your permit will be for any handgun.
