How to help big one raise £2,200 to fund her Malawi Expedition by Taz

"A lot of scrimping and scraping."

How I did it: A couple of relatives put in a fiver here and there.

Her Dad paid off one installment.

Her local Scout Committee contributed £250 towards the trip.

She saved up over £300 of her own money.

I did a car boot sale and I've managed to pull together the rest.  They'll probably be no summer holiday for wee one and I this year but at least big one is going to get the experience of a lifetime. :)

We probably could have done a whole lot more fund raising activities but big one's Explorer group didn't offer any help at all despite being asked, which was disappointing to say the least.  
So with only me, big one and wee one it would have been too difficult trying to hold any large scale activity.

We also live in a very small village which doesn't help matters.

Lessons & tips: Get lots of support if you can but if you can't just keep plodding on.  Anything is possible.

Resources: Cutting back on treats, trips, holidays.

Making up meals out of store cupboard and freezer  booty.

What an amazing achievement!

You can’t put a price on the experience of a lifetime that big one will be able to have and memories to look back on her whole life!

My cousin went on a trip to Peru around the same age and it was something she would never change. My brother and his girlfriend are travelling arounf South America at the moment and although saving the money meant they’ve missed out on lots, it has been worth every penny for the unforgettable experiences they are having!

Big one is lucky to have such a lovely Mummy :-)

Yeah I know this will be an amazing experience for her and I’m glad that I’ve been able to get the money together to send her.
As a kid I would never have even thought about doing something like this – lack of confidence and financially impossible.
I have warned both my smalls thought that when they’re all grown up and settled I plan on being a backpacking granny, fancy joining me? :)

There have many

things gone without and I am pretty shocked myself that I’ve managed to get the money together but like you said doing it for one of my small people certainly made me more determined to succeed. :)
