How to learn patience
How I did it: Patience is something if you do not naturally have, it can be very difficult to achieve. I recently had a stressful work situation that was testing my patience. I remembered a work survey a while back that asked questions regarding how we deal with stress. One of the questions asked about controlled breathing. I started using controlled breathing during difficult times when I noticed I was starting to loose my patience. I would literally stop for a moment, breathe slowly and deeply, and tell myself that I need to stay calm and level headed. Loosing my patience or acting hastily during a stressful situation is not going to solve anything. I have found that when I loose patience with someone else, I need to take a quick moment to put myself in the other person's shoes. 99% of the time, the other party is not intentionally trying to make my life harder, more stressful, or annoy me, and rather than loose my patience, I need to problem solve. I need to take time, away from the stressful situation, to think about a practical solution. I have become much better at dealing with others during difficult times, and helping other stay calm when situations arise. Having patience is an important skill. It allows for better, more open communication and a better environment for learning and growing.
