How to go on a road trip, alone. by Kenny Pang

"DO IT!"

How I did it:

Note: This is a cross-post with two items on 43 thing: “go white water rafting” and “go to road trip, alone”, since I did both in the same trip.

So last year I mentioned about going white water rafting with friends, but due to some reasons people cannot schedule a weekend that is suitable for everyone, so the trip never happened.

Early April this year: I re-opened the case to my friends but they do not seem to be interested anymore.

But,

another friend told me that “if you really want to go, go by yourself.” I realized that going on a road trip alone is something I want to do, as a reflection of my life, an escape from the people from I know and seeing new people/culture.

So I did some research and bam, there we go. Signed up a weekend getaway package solo and stayed at their hostel on site. (It is a Hostelling International site)

It is a 6 hour drive one way, snapped some pictures and I actually made new friends in the weekend. Since it is geared towards adventure travel and a hostel, people come from all around the world. And because I went alone, I ended up hanging out with the staffs and other people. I also heard a good share of their stories.

One of the more funny thing is that a guide asked me to make an introduction for their "Carn Roll" video. Apparently they made a video for their guides at the end of each season which consists of the more spectacular wipeouts. For that they treated me some beer. 

The last thing is I drove there by myself, coming back in a convoy since my new friends are travelling the same direction.

They also have a camp in Mexico: they move everything there in October and move everything back in April.

I really like...

the idea of taking a trip alone.
It’s something that not many do or at least not often. I know I never have. But, I think it could be a great way to focus yourself and push some personal boundaries.

Also, your trip sounded awesome! :D
