A HUGE cheer -
That sounds like an absolutely fantastic trip! And incredibly inspiring too.
Glad that you had such an awesome trip.
Unfortunately I don’t have any cheers right now, but I’ll be sure to drop by later when I do.
How I did it: First I found two friends who wanted to do the same as me - take a year of, work to save up some money and the travel the world:D We planned the trip with a travel agency who helped us put together the ultimate trip that we wanted. We also did a little research before we packed our bags and went:D We travelled from Norway to New Delhi, India - from there we joined a guided trip that took us through India for 15 days down to Mumbai and Goa, we got to see the Taj Mahal and ride camels in to the dessert and a bunch of other cool stuff. Then we flew to Thailand where we stayed for about three weeks just taning and havin fun on different islands, it was beautiful there! We went to the full moon party in Ko Phangan, went more partying in Phuket and did amazing boat rides and snorkelling on Phi Phi and.
After that we travelled over to Malaysia where we first enjoyed several lazy days at a hot hot island with a beautiful beach, Langkawi (it was sooo hot there!) before we travelled down to Kuala Lumpur. We did a lot of cheap shopping and saw the amazing city before we went to AUSTRALIA:)
We stayed in australia for a month in total - travelled from Perth to Melbourne, to Sydney before we joined a surf course up to Byron Bay - I can only say that in Australia we had a awesome time and met tonnes of cool people!
We then flew to New Zealand - rented a campervan (spaceship) and travelled the entire north Island in 10 days. We got to swim with dolphins, saw hobbiton (the set from lord of the rings) and did black water rafting inside the caves where you could see thousands of glow worms!
Fiji was our next stop - 4 different islands in 7 days! THAT was amazing! The people were so friendly, just really inviting! we stayed in small straw cabins between palm trees down at the beach. I did'nt wear shoes for a week! I totally fell in love with this beautiful place! all you did was hang out with great people, lay at the beach and go snorkeling
Our last stop was LA - really cool, did a lot of shopping and went to universal studios and Santa Monica, we had a great time!
All in all i can just say that this trip has proven to me how easy it really is to get around, and has just left me with being even more adventures!
Lessons & tips: Bring ear plugs! what ever you do, for gods sake bring earplugs! somebody told me that before I left and believe me I'm glad I did!! You never know where your gonna end up and how the conditions are gonna be there - you sleep on a train, a crowded hostel (on a 32 doorm for example) or a cheap hotel next to a club … you will be thankful! other than that:
- read up and take the time to talk to people who have travelled before on there experiences. Also find out a little bit about the area and the culture you will be visiting, it'll probably be a lot different than home and you will be more comfortable if you know what's accepted as “normal” and not.
- You absolutely don't have to plan the trip day by day, its much better to not have reservations everywhere because as you travel things probably will change and its nice to know that you can stay a couple of days longer or go somewhere else if you realise that you want to along the way.
- try really hard not to bring too much, if your gonna live the backpacker style, your standards are gonna low anyway, and you will be thankful when you have to carry it everywhere. And you will manage without! What ever the size your backpack is you will manage to fill it up, so the smaller the better. However if you do bring too much or by stuff, you can always send a package home:)
- if you go to India, watch out for the chicken!
Resources:
I used Kilroy travel agency, they gave us all the help that we could possibly need and answered all our questions. What I liked the best was how they made the trip exactly how we would like it, and had a thousand suggestions for things we didn't even knew one could do. I would absolutely recommend Kilroy! We also spend a lot of time in different travel shops to see all the gadgets for travellers and make sure we brought all practical stuff that would suite the areas that we were going to. And don't forget that you probably have to get some vaccinations before you go, make sure to do that in about 3 months before you go:)

Sounds totally amazing – can I ask how much it cost? and how many countries you visited in total?
WOW wow wow – riding camels in the desert, seeing taj mahal, full moon party in thailand, surf lessons, swimming with dolphins – all on my bucket list too! good for you, girl!!!!
Cheers to you, you are SOOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I feel really fortunate that I had the possibility to go on this trip and see all the amazing things that we got to see! :)
I payed in total about 5300 dollars for all the plain tickets – this was actually a really good deal when you think about how that is 10 different plain tickets taking me from Norway around the world and back home. It also included one year of travel insurance, a 15 days guided trip trough India (all hotels included), 5 days surfcamp – all included and 9 days “island jumping” – all included in Fiji.
We also spent about another 5000 dollars during the journey – for food, hotels, shopping, sighting activities and other travel expenses.
It was worth every penny!!
I hope you get the chance to do something like this too:)
