How to stop being afraid of spiders by Ariel

How I did it: I used to be terrified of spiders. If I even saw one I'd freeze up and start crying. It was bad.

In order to overcome my fear I took it one slow step at a time. I started looking up pictures of spiders on the internet. At first it really scared me, but I always tried to see the endearing or beautiful qualities in the spiders. I started referring to them as "fine gentlemen" or "darling little ladies" (even though it didn't always feel that way)

There are some very cute pictures of jumping spiders out there. This video is also very cute (warning, this is a video with spiders in it)

I read something on the internet about a jumping spider taking down a brown recluse that was bigger than it, by jumping it like a ninja. The more I learned about jumping spiders the more I came to actually start LIKING them.

Then one day at work there was a little jumping spider inside and, instead of freaking out, I picked it up barehanded and took it outside to set it free. I was actually happy that I finally got to hold one of those cute lil monsters.

With my fear of jumping spiders completely out of the way it became much easier to start appreciating all spiders. Their beautiful homes take care of the annoying bugs that swarm around my face in the summertime. And even though they have so many creepy little legs, they're just trying to make an honest living for themselves.

I actually really like spiders now.

Just take it slow and begin to understand these creatures, because they are very misunderstood. You may come to like them too. And nothing is better than having some charming spider friends.

Trauma_Junkie thinks she may have had a touch too much caffiene...

I did the same

thing with snakes. But I admit, I still have no desire to touch them, or see them moving towards me. But seeing them out on trails now is not too bad, its even interesting, as long as they are moving AWAY from me…
