"Not only risking, but actually getting hurt, was a most instructive experience. I"
How I did it: I found someone interesting and let the situation develop. We developed a nice regular schedule of seeing each other. I got hooked, and as soon as I knew this, I opened my heart a little. The setting wasn't very romantic, but I was determined to say things as I saw them.I got rejected, sweetly but firmly.
Lessons & tips:
- The hurt really hurts.
- The hurt is much, much better than the 'what if' of not risking anything.
- Don't practice a speech beforehand. Conversations never go the way you imagine them.
- During the conversation there will be little bits of ambiguity. Don't let these fool you into imagining possibilities where expressly there are none.
Resources:
- Discreet friends I could share my dreams/illusions with.
- Provocative friends who poked me along.
