How to join a gym
How I did it: I checked out the local YMCA and another local gym. I really liked the local gym. It was not as crowded as the the Y and I really liked the vibe. Its only at 50% capacity, close to home and has a great trainer. The monthly dues are comparable to what I've seen elsewhere and we got a 10% discount because we are seniors (defined as over 55, which I just turned this year). I also prepaid for 4 personal training sessions. And now that I won't be traveling all over the world, I'll be able to use it.
Lessons & tips: Check out all of the local gyms that you might be interested in and be sure to ask about how busy it is. If possible, go to the gym around the times that you would plan on normally using it so you can get a sense of the vibe and if you wold be comfortable at it.
