How to own a business
How I did it: I made it top priority to start my own business (http://jennyarchie.etsy.com). It took some time to muster up with the nerves to do this. But since I'd already done all the research necessary, I was ready to just jump in with both feet and get it done. The key is to start small and to be realistic. I don't know when I'll break even, but I have a long-range view of this and am in it for the really long haul.
Lessons & tips: It took lots of research and planning. It wasn't difficult, but you have
to commit yourself to do the preparation. Don't shirk your duties to
come up with a business plan, do budget analysis, market research, etc.
Resources: The book "Craft, Inc." was key to my successful path; I have recommended it to family who want to do like me. That book is chock full of useful information based on research and interviews with others who started their own craft businesses.
