Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

How to run a 5k

I ran another.

I completed my second 5K on June 26, doing the Race to the Taste. A fellow teacher and I have kept up our running and ran in the race to the Taste of Chicago! We loved this race because at the end we got to try some delicious healthy foods, enjoy live bands and have a beer! It was wonderful.

Third time is a charm!

On July 28th I ran the Children’s memorial 5k! It was super hot and humid but I ran the whole time and felt amazing! Again, I couldn’t have done it without my running buddy with me the whole way!!

Oops...I did it again!

This past weekend I ran my 4th 5K. I ran in the Mad Dash to the Madhouse. This was the run for the Chicago Blackhawks training camp. I have taken a bit of time off of running since my knee has been hurting and I have been busy with work. I had to run this one without my running buddy. I ran my slowest time, but I was still able to complete the race and enjoy my beer while watching the Hawks scrimmage. Therefore…it was worth it!

Another on my list!

I suppose it doesn’t technically count as “running a 5k ” since I walked, but I still completed a 5k! This was the most delicious 5k yet! We ran in the ghirardeli hot chocolate run. At the end we had chocolates, hot chocolate and amazing chocolate fondue with all sorts of goodies for dipping! It felt great to be out and moving again after taking some time off. I’m walking another race soon but can’t wait to start running them again next year!

I just can't stop

I ran in the Rudolph Ramble this December. This was an 8K, but I only did half because of my injury. I have been recovering well though and I have signed up for my first 5K of 2012 in February!
