How to learn a new dance
How I did it: I wanted to learn a sensual new dance, it was a toss up between salsa and tango. I decided tango was more complicated and somewhat more refined and decided to take a class. I started in April with a beginner's class once a week. I simply went online and googled tango classes in my area. Tango is pretty complicated and I stayed in the beginner's class for 3 months. This past month, my instructor offered a Tango Bootcamp. Three weeks of tango classes six days a week. I'm in the middle of the final week of camp and finally feel like a Tango dancer! After bootcamp, I'm going to graduate to the beginner/intermediate class and also the intermediate/advanced class so I can take two classes a week. I have to get ready for my trip to Argentina in September so I'm pretty thrilled at my progress and accomplishments. Dancing is a skill that will improve your self-confidence and open you up to a whole new culture. Tango has rules and traditions and it's own kind of feeling. Oh, and the music is breathtaking!
Lessons & tips: 1. Be dedicated.
2. Let your body flow. Thinking too much just makes you look clumsy and awkward.
3. Be open and make friends with your classmates.
Resources: 1. IslaTango: the company that my instructor runs
2 the internet: read numerous articles about tango, listened to tango music, and also found my tango class
3. my dance partners: they really helped me become better by practicing with me and teaching me
