How to blog daily. by bird_of_paradise

"I started writing a language blog to practice foreign languages."

How I did it: I set up my language blog on Blogger.com for free and started blogging. At the beginning I had more time to write, but since then time has become tight so I've dropped to a sentence or two. It feels good to practice and have exposure to the languages at least once a week.

At times I vary the languages to add a new one; however, I mainly keep the same format: Swedish Monday, German Tuesday, Russian Wednesday, French Thursday, Chinese (Simplified) Friday, Hindi Saturday, and Farsi Sunday. (I'm also thinking about adding a British English day! :))

Lessons & tips:

  • Sometimes I will miss several days, but I go back and write entries for those days when I have more time.
  • It's good to review what you've written previously, so you can keep the same format throughout.
  • Enjoy the process! I know I love practicing languages, so for me it's fun. :)

Your language blog is such a great idea! Usually I write notes to myself in french when I am bored and review them later but I really like the idea of the blog because often times I lose my notes or end up throwing them away.

I might end up doing this!

Also, kudos on the german and russian. I would love to learn german and russian. One day at a time, sigh.

I also write diary entries/notes to myself in another language, especially if I’m sitting on a bus, plane, etc., to keep my thoughts private from my seatmates. :)

A language blog provides me with a format and structure for writing, and motivates me to stay on target.
