"Cooking for myself at home has become a really great way for me to enjoy the few nights a week that I am not busy-- it's a great way to unwind and find some peace of mind during a crazy work week."
How I did it: I decided that I spend way too much money buying food outside of my house while I'm on the go. I made a real effort to buy more groceries on a daily basis-- as I walked by markets on my way to and from work-- so that I could have fresh ingredients for whatever food I was craving that day. Before I knew it I realized that the foods I made at home were much more satisfying and less expensive than the easy foods I would grab each day for lunch, or on the way home for a quick dinner. Now stopping by the fruit and vegetable stand is a part of my routine, and I get excited to find new simple recipes to make each week.
Lessons & tips: Don't convince yourself that you don't have the time or energy to cook a good meal-- once you realize that you can make great food fast, you'll be stoked to do it more often. Also, having friends that you can cook with/for is a great way to get yourself into a routine of making meals at home, as well as a great source for sharing recipes.
