"Meetup.com has really helped me get off my duff and out into the world meeting people with similar interests!"
How I did it: Went to the Meetup.com website and searched for groups with my interests.
Found three that I liked and signed up: (1) Hikabull - a local group for socializing & walking pitbull & bully breed dogs (2) BAM - Bay Area Mountaineers (3) Bay Area Backpacking Buddies.
When you sign up you have to fill out a basic profile for each group you sign up for.
By checking Meetup daily eventually an event was posted that I could attend. You must RSVP and this holds your spot. My first meetup was a Hikabull event at Fremont Older a park near where I live. Id never been to the park and didnt realize it was dog friendly so was excited!
Have since gone on 6 hikes with the group and its been a great motivator for me to get off my butt and out with with my dogs. Met lots of nice people too.
Lessons & tips: Check meetup often. There is a calender with highlighted days indicating that there is an event on those days. If you click on one it will tell you what the event is.
You can also sign up for email updates.
You must RSVP and this holds your spot. Many events are space limited so if you wait you might be out of luck.
Most events are free, but if there's a fee its usually listed on the event.
