How to have the wedding of my dreams by forbiddenrice

"Did everything I wanted under a time constraint and had a fabulous time!"

How I did it: Our wedding was planned for 11/11/11 but circumstances with work (DH is military) and overseas family made this not possible. We decided to have the wedding in the summer so family could come.

I have an awesome cousin who is part of a Unitarian Parish and I talked to the Reverend there. (Mind you I did most of my planning overseas from Japan, wedding was in Massachusetts). Also had a lot of help from my father in Florida and his relatives in Massachusetts. 

Photography, hair, and  makeup were done by his aunt's wedding studio in Natick, MA. Cake was ordered when I got there in Milford, MA. Reception was taken care of in MA. Friends of my FIL did the catering. My dress was almost done being made (I designed it myself in Taiwan, it was a wedding present from Aunt in law). I also had a second dress made (qipao/ Chinese dress) for the reception.

Theme was Vintage Tea Party and the centerpieces were teapots bought on ebay and shipped to his aunt's house. They were then filled with flowers by the florist who was a friend of the family. She only charged the price of the flowers and labor was free (her wedding gift to us). Rings had already been purchased prior to event. Tuxes were rented. Favors were teacups bought in Japan and shipped to the states. I also printed out, cut, glued and assembled custom teabags with our names, monogram, date and saying on the back "The
 Perfect Blend" (Italian and Taiwanese flags). 

We asked for cash/check gifts since we were travelling back to Japan after the wedding. 

There was no time for invitations so I did e-invites and made my own free webpage on The Knot website. 

Lessons & tips: I am the type of person that likes to do things everything by herself. If you are in this type of situation you need to lose a little control and let family help you out. It also helps if you have talented family members in the catering, floral, fashion, wedding business.
